Tartu - September 2nd - Reviews

Review from Sens:

I came to the entrance of the venue at 17:00, one hour before the gates open. Depeche Mode were performing soundcheck (In Your Room, World In My Eyes, A Question Of Time, Somebody). There was about 100 fans before the gates already and they were singing with Dave and Martin.
Gates opened at 18:15.
There was a sale of merchandise right after the gates:
-3 types of T-shirts - 300eek ($20) each
-black ski hat with red letters 'dm' on it - 100eek ($7)
-'The Singles 86-98' book - 100eek
-metallic medallion (very limited) - 100eek
The stage was small and red. Something was hidden behind 3 blue curtains on the back of the stage.
At 20:00 Purity came out and played 5 songs. They had some problems with microphone.
At 20:30 Tim Simenon started to play some music from his DJ stand. Meanwhile the stage workers began to check microphones and instruments for DM. The fans were chanting 'depeche mode, depeche mode...' all the time
At 21:00 Tim started to play Painkiller and the curtains started to fall down. There were very big 'DM' letters made of many lamps. 3 small video screens were between them.
Then the band began to take the stage. First the drummer, then Fletch, Martin and Dave. The beginning of 'A Question Of Time' drove the fans absolutely mad. It was incredible. Dave said 'good evening Tartu!' after the song.
Dave looked relaxed and young and his performance was perfect. He moved a lot and was dancing with microphone stand. Martin looked a little sad on the beginning.
All songs was new versions with live drums. Most of them were very cool! Martin played guitar on almost all songs, even 'A Question Of Lust'. Sometimes another keyboarder joined the band, but that wasn't Tim Simenon. There were 2 very attractive young women performing backing vocals on half of the songs.
There were cool video clips on some songs but I didn't remember them much because I was looking on the band most of the time.
The fans were singing every song, even 'Only When I Lose Myself'. The most powerful was 'Personal Jesus'. That was the peak of the show. Dave pointed microphone to the crowd and all fans sing 'reach out and touch Dave!'.
After 'Barrel Of A Gun' Dave said 'thank you, good night' and the band left the stage, but the fans were screaming and shouting 'depeche mode, depeche mode...' during 10 minutes and then Martin came back on the stage and sang 'Somebody'. Then Dave sang 'Stripped' and 'I Feel You'. Those 2 sons' new versions were absolutely the best. There was some problems with Martin's guitar on 'I Feel You'.
Then DM left the stage again but they were visible from my point of view. Dave and Martin were smiling. The fans began chanting again. Then the band walked out, Dave said 'we've got a surprise for you' and 'Just Can't Get Enough' started.
After the song Dave sent flying kiss to the crowd and the band left the stage.
